Doctor Who: Destiny Of The Doctor's

This a graphical PC computer game based on the British science fiction television series Doctor Who. The story revolves around the original 7 Doctors and The Master. And, of course, as you can see from the picture above, features many of the classic Doctor Who monsters.

The game is challenging! Not that the puzzle solving is all that hard, but it could be considered a "timed game" in that you only have a certain amount of energy that starts to count down as soon as gameplay begins. Once you are out of energy....GAME OVER. There are opportunities to gain more energy through blue crystals, but mostly it just goes down....FAST. But don't let that discourage you. It wouldn't be fun if it were too easy!

It's my opinion that is why the game got so many bad reviews. There are other things that could use improvement (controls, etc.) but it is still playable, and even enjoyable. Looking at the reviews on Amazon.uk, people either loved it or hated it. Plus, online you can find more reviews than what I referenced above, some positive, some negative. Interestingly, I found no entry in mobygames, my usual "go to" source.

All in all, the best thing to do is just download it and play it (with mod or without...that is up to your own conscience) and decide yourself.

Gameplay:

Gameplay is from the first person perspective; however, you can "shift your energy" to any of the security cameras in the current room to get a better view of things.

The keyboard is the main control device, but the mouse is used to pick up things and interact with the TARDIS.

It is not a pure point and click adventure, nor really a full FPS, but more of a hybrid.

I am toying with the idea of redoing the torrent and including the readme file separate from the compressed file, as it is very comprehensive and you get a very good idea of the gameplay from that. Or if I can figure out the collapse tag (new to this) I may just paste the readme file in the description collapsed. Lastly, if I find a site review that already goes into gameplay in detail I'll just link that. Any site members with suggestions on which way to do it best, please contact me.

Destiny of the Doctors is a CD-ROM based game developed by a collaboration between BBC Multimedia and Studio Fish. It was released on December 5, 1997. It was released in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia, as well as some countries in Europe and carried an European game age rating of 11+. It was never released in the U.S.

I have been playing it on my laptop with a single core Athlon64 3000+, 1 GB of memory, and built-in graphics at the highest settings allowed by the game without any problem. It played smoothly and not too fast. (In the settings, it gives you a choice of processor speed of P60, P100, or P133+ )

It was originally designed for Windows 95/98, but I've been playing it on an XP-based system without the need to run in compatibility mode. Although, other XP-based systems may encounter problems. Vista will play the game, but not the FMV graphics, so be warned.

It requires at least DirectX 5, which it will install for you if you don't have a later version (as if!).

To install the game, you need to find the setup.exe file on the CD and run that file. No autorun for this one! This is all explained in the very comprehensive and informative readme file on the CD. It is worth the time to skim through, as it is chock full of information that can help you play the game better.
