Asterix: Mega Madness (SLES-03324)

Many minigame packages attempt to give their games a party atmosphere pumped with adrenaline and competetiveness, and whilst some do achieve this, many fail to do so - Asterix: Mega Madness does not. Graphically the game is quite unusual for PS1 as it has a nice cartoony style, even if it does have the scratchy textures that all Playstation games tend to. The sounds are also very fitting, over-the-top and melodramatic which when combined with the apearence works well to give the atmosphere of a cartoon-style party game. Although the game doesn't have anywhere near the number of minigames that Wii games do today, they have a fair amount of depth, and unlike the Wii are all fun and different in their own distinctive right. Although the story may be lacking, and seemingly thrown together as an excuse for lots of mini competitions it takes nothing away from the game and sometimes adds to it thanks to the small movies that are shown occassinally. Asterix: Mega Madness is a game that works perfectly for parties and multiplayer game fests thanks to it's diverse range of minigames and individual style.
