It's NOT hard.
There's much easier to use gamepad in (so called) QAM (quick action moments) in this game than keyboard. I remind you that RE4 first was released on GameCube (console used gamepads), then as remake on PS (console used gamepads), and THEN PC get the port with option of using gamepad as controller (preferrable).
P.S. Most gamers scolded first release of PC-version of the game for pretty poor control, sound, and graphic adaptation thru...
