Red Lemon Studios
Red Lemon was formed in Scotland in 1996 by Andy Campbell, Laurent Noel and Andy Findlay, all ex-Gremlin Interactive staff. Gremlin, a classic developer/publisher hailing from the UK home computer boom, are now sadly defunct. Red Lemon moved sites to the centre of Glasgow in 1998, to inhabit an award-winning custom designed HQ, even before they had released any product. This approach seems typical of Red Lemon's interest in the business side of the games industry, and was part funded by a government award. Also in 1998, Red Lemon were approached to join Sega Europe's development 'Dream Cast' to create DC games for the machine's launch and beyond. Red Lemon's first completed game, Braveheart (based upon the Mel Gibson film of the same name), was published in 1999.
Noel sold his stake in the company in April 2000, leading to significant restructuring, a process that included instating a new board of directors, who include Peter Bilotta (President of Virgin Interactive Entertainment) and Stuart Cosgrove (head of programmes at Channel 4, a major UK television station). This high-business approach to games production couldn't be further from the ethos of Gremlin's Spectrum days.
Red Lemon went bankrupt in early 2003.
